Wedding Uplighting & Lighting Design in Jamaica
Lighting is not a rental item at 876 Sounds. It is a design process that runs alongside your planner and your florist, and it is programmed to your room before anyone arrives.
Designed with your planner, not delivered to your venue
Most lighting at a destination wedding is a box of fixtures set to a colour and left there for five hours. We work the other way. Before the day, we take your palette, your florals and your venue's architecture, and we map which fixture sits where and what it does at each point in the evening.
A gold that flatters your linens can flatten your greenery. A magenta that photographs beautifully on a wall can turn skin tones in a group shot. We resolve that on the planner timeline call, not on the night.

Uplighting · Hyatt Ziva, Montego BayLive on the floor
Programmed, not left on automatic
Scenes are cued rather than triggered by a sound-to-light mode reacting to whatever is playing. Beams stay on the floor and the architecture, and never sweep a seated table or a camera.

Dance floor lighting, liveTransforming the venue you chose
Uplighting picks out columns, arches, stonework, ceiling structure and the natural features you booked the venue for. On a villa or estate that often means foliage and garden walls rather than a ballroom.
The room beside this is the same room, two hours apart. Nothing was added to it but light.
- Architectural highlighting across walls, columns, drapery and foliage
- Ambient layering from an intimate dinner glow to a full party environment, in stages
- Wireless, battery-powered fixtures, so no cabling crosses a lawn, a terrace or a beach

Before · H10 Ocean Coral SpringsYour lighting design includes

- Pan and tilt limits set per fixture, so beams stay off faces and out of lenses
- Wireless battery-powered fixtures, with no visible cabling
- Dance floor lighting at every event, in every experience
- Coordination with your photographer and videographer before the day
- Island-wide delivery, at resorts, villas and private estates
Built for the camera
Your photographer and videographer are working the same room. Colour choice, beam placement and intensity are set so the images hold up: no colour cast across faces during speeches, no lens flare through the first dance, no dark hole where the cake table is.
If your photographer has preferences, we would rather hear them before the day than read about them after.
Where this sits
Lighting across the four experiences
Dance floor lighting is included at every 876 Sounds event, in every experience, including Foundation. Nobody dances in a bare room.
Lighting designed to your theme and your venue, which is everything described on this page, begins at the Cinematic Experience, and can also be added to a Foundation or Signature booking.
Questions
What couples and planners ask
What is uplighting at a wedding?
Uplighting is a set of fixtures placed on the floor around a room's perimeter, angled upward, to wash walls, columns, drapery or foliage in colour. At a destination wedding it is the fastest way to make a neutral resort ballroom or an open-sided tent look like it was designed for you.
How many uplights does our venue need?
It depends on the perimeter of the room, the ceiling height and how much of the architecture you want picked out. We map the space during the planner timeline call and quote fixtures against that map rather than selling a fixed package count.
Will the lighting clash with our florals?
Not if it is planned. We ask for your palette and your florist's proposal in advance and select colours that lift the flowers rather than distort them. This is the main reason we treat lighting as a design step rather than an equipment line.
Does uplighting work outdoors, in a tent, or at a villa?
Yes. Our fixtures are wireless and battery-powered, which is what makes gardens, terraces, beaches and open-sided tents workable without cable runs across the ground.
Will the lighting ruin our photographs?
The opposite, when it is set correctly. Colour, beam placement and intensity are chosen with the photography in mind, and pan and tilt limits keep beams off faces and out of lenses.
Is lighting included in your DJ package?
Dance floor lighting is included in every experience including Foundation. Designed lighting, mapped and programmed to your venue and palette, begins at the Cinematic Experience and can be added to any tier.
Do you need power from the venue?
Our uplighting is battery-powered and wireless. Power requirements for the wider production are confirmed with your venue during the planner timeline call, so nothing is discovered on the day.
What is a monogram projection?
A custom projection of your initials, crest or logo onto a wall, a dance floor or a facade. It sits with our special effects rather than with uplighting, and you can read about it on the special effects page.
Do you work at resorts as well as villas?
Both, island-wide. Resorts and private villas present different lighting problems and we plan for them differently. You can see the resorts and villas and estates we have worked at.
